Review

Leo and Kelly are twins who have just found out that they adopted, so they are both adjusting to this news. Leo is more than happy to just accept the great life that their Mum and Dad have given them, but Kelly is a bit more curious, especially as they both keep having the same dream about a cold place. Could it be connected? But with their camping trip to Ember Island now underway to celebrate their 11th birthday that will have to wait!

Spending time with their extended family on an island that is renowned for its nature and wildlife, the kids are excited to be doing all the things they love. The only downside is the school bullies, Kane and Felix, along with Kane’s rich and obnoxious father, are camping near them. They are mean and like to particularly pick on Leo, who doesn’t stand up to them as much as feisty Kelly does.

But it is the trip to Serpent Falls that starts to see everything change for the kids and is the start of the family secret revealing itself. Could they really all have a connection to an animal like they think might? But why is this strange occurrence just happening to them now, and what does it mean for them in the future?

This is a magical story about connection to and the protection of nature and wildlife, family, adventure, doing the right thing and the consequences that can happen when you don’t!

It will be enjoyed by all students in middle to upper primary.
