Fly to England, become friends with a ghost, and catch a thief with Freddie Jones in the second book of the new mystery series by Kate Foster.
Freddie, Hobnob and Grandma Lilly are setting off to England, where Freddie's parents have been hired to investigate a series of thefts at the luxurious Langbourne Hotel. Freddie's excited for his first trip to the other side of the world, but Grandma Lilly doesn't seem her usual self.
When Freddie overhears someone making threats in the garden - and sees a girl that he's pretty sure is a ghost! - he decides to open a new case for FGH Detectives. Freddie hopes that solving the Case of the Ghostly Garden will pull Grandma Lilly out of her slump ... and maybe even help his parents catch the hotel thief, too!
This is the second, standalone title in this fabulous new series.
After their adventure to the Daintree in the first book, Freddie and his Mum and Dad, together with Hobnob (Freddie’s assistance dog), and Grandma Lilly, are now on their way to England. His Mum and Dad have been tasked with trying to solve the mystery of the thefts that keep happening at the Langbourne Hotel.
Freddie is worried about the long trip, but he is excited to be going to the place where his Mum was born and where Grandma Lilly and his Grandpa George lived.
But from the moment they arrive, things just don’t seem quite right - including the arguing and threats that Freddie overhears, the strange girl in an old-fashioned white dress hiding behind a tree, the staff that all seem to be new and very well paid, the manager who everyone is scared of, as well as the strange and suspicious couple, Diane and Philip, who are staying at the hotel.
Freddie is certain that their FGH Detective group, which Grandma and Freddie formed in the Daintree, have a new mystery to solve. But Grandma is not her usual bubbly self and she just wants to stay in her room, and Freddie is not sure he can do it without her. After alll, she is always the one who understands and helps him. Maybe Freddie is more capable than he thinks?
This is a fabulous mystery story about family, neurodiversity and friendship, that sees the growth and maturing of Freddie, as he realises that he can do things on his own, and confront situations that he might normally avoid. It will be thoroughly enjoyed by those in middle to upper primary.
