Review
Jake is staying at his Nan’s house and he can’t sleep. When he sees some men digging up the meadow behind the house, he creeps out and discovers that they are digging up an ancient Roman ruin and stealing the treasures!
Soon after the ghost of a young Roman named Marcus appears to him, and urges him to get the treasures back so that his family can be at peace.
Jake and his new friends Tilly and Rabbit agree to help. But it will take all their detective powers to find the thieves and get the treasures back. Can they manage? Or will they get into lots of trouble trying?
This is a fantastic middle grade mystery that will keep you enthralled from beginning to end. Jake and Marcus the ghost have a lot in common, having both lost their fathers. They help each other to grieve, and Jake learns that doing the things he loved with his Dad will only help to honour his memory.
It’s also a fast-paced adventure as Jake, Tilly and Rabbit try to find the stolen treasure and bring the thieves to justice, as well as learning about the history of the Romans in Britain. They are all great characters who soon become the best of friends as they work together.
This will be loved by those 11 and up who enjoy a great mystery, with a bit of history and the supernatural thrown in as well.
