Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, is the mightiest of all beasts. The problem is, he's tired of being feared and hated and is determined to become a god instead.
As luck would have it, an ancient evil has returned and is secretly turning everyone into monsters and the gods are in need of a good warrior. They strike a deal with the Monkey King: travel the world and defeat the monsters and they'll make him a god.
Soon the Monkey King is off to Greece, where he gets tasked with pet-sitting - andpotty-training - a three-headed dog. Oh, and then there's the whole 'defeat a man-eating Minotaur' mission too...
A colourful graphic novel, filled with mischief, a few pee mishaps and lots of action.
Sun Wukong has grand plans. He is the Monkey King. He wants to become a god, but he is told that this is impossible. Gods are gods, humans are humans, and monsters and beasts are just that.
But when he challenges the gods to a showdown our determined little hero does so well that they set him a challenge ... and they don’t expect what happens next!
Sun Wukong certainly challenges predefined ideas, and shows that everyone should have the opportunity to be their best self.
With characters from ancient mythologies, this adventure to Greece features Hades, the king of the underworld, the three-headed Cerberus, and even the Minotaur. This easy-to-read graphic novel is hilarious and full of mischief, but also contains a great message about achieving your goals and not pigeonholing people. It is best suited to readers in middle to upper primary.
