Description

Sport-mad Patty Mills is a star on the footy field, an ace at athletics, a ripper at rugby. So when he tries out for basketball, it should be a breeze . . .

Patty expects to be a great basketballer straight away, just like his uncle Danny. But he soon discovers there's whole lot more to the game than just shooting hoops. He's got a lot to learn, on and off the court - and it's going to take plenty of practice. Will he and his school team be good enough to get into the finals?

Review

Sports loving readers, particularly those that are basketball mad, are going to love this new series!

In this first book, we are introduced to Patty and his friends at St Mary’s. Patty is a gun at all sports. But basketball is one sport that he hasn't really played, as he is convinced he is too short! Even having an uncle who was famous basketballer hasn't persuaded him.

So when openings come up on the basketball team, and with some encourage from the coach, Patty and his friends decide to give it a go. But Patty is used to being the best at sport. How will he cope with learning new skills and understanding how the game of basketball is played? Does he have the patience to see it through?

This series is sure to be a great hit with emerging readers, and it is more than just a book about sport. It shows us how juggling school and other commitments can be hard at times and highlights the importance of friendship, of having a go and not giving up.
