Cassie never goes out, so when Kiah invites her to a New Year's Eve party she decides to take a chance. She is 17, so it is probably time.
But when she gets there it seems she has been set up as Dylan’s date. After a brief game of truth or dare, where she kisses Dylan and the others were drinking a lot, she decides to leave.
But with no phone reception Cassie can’t call anyone, so she listens to her music and eventually falls asleep on the couch.
Screaming wakes her up at around 2am, and she finds Kiah covered in blood - the blood of a boy with a knife embedded in his chest. Because of the drinking, one of the boys insists that they don't call the police until they sober up and, in the meantime, that they should all get their story straight. Cassie has no story that she needs to get straight, but soon realises that some of them seem to want to set her up as the murderer...
This is a short and fast-paced murder mystery, with themes of the effects of alcohol, honesty, friendship and trust, that will entertain readers 13 years and older.
