Review

This is the first book in this fabulous new series, centred around the Taronga Zoo.

Sophia and Ollie are best friends whose parents both work at Taronga Zoo. Sophia’s mum is a vet and Ollie’s dad works in the backyard crew, so they know the place inside out.

When they get the chance to spend the summer holidays as part of the volunteer program, they are both so excited. But when they realise the first job that they will be assigned revolves all around the animal’s poo, their excitement soon wavers. If they want to be the youngest ever official volunteers at the zoo, they know that they are going to have to give it their all. And who knew how important animal poo really is!

This is a fabulous insight into the workings of the zoo and the animals’ lives. Sophia and Ollie are both wonderful characters. They are both passionate about the animals, and their knowledge and enthusiasm really shines through.

Lower to middle primary aged students, particularly animal lovers, will thoroughly enjoy this story that goes behind the scenes of the zoo and explores friendship and how rewarding it can be to be dedicated and work hard for the things that you are passionate about.
