I didn't always live with seven old people and one middle-aged cavoodle called Christine ...

Claudia Smith's parents have left her to (temporarily) live with her grandparents at Boonside Heights Retirement Village while they're away on a once-in-a-lifetime cruise.

The only good thing? The most popular kids at school, Yasmin and Zayn Bassal, have turned up to visit their grandmother.

The not-so-good thing? Orpheus McAdoo, the most annoying kid at school, is hanging around like a bad smell.

When the discovery of a mysterious note has the oldies in a fluster, Claudia sees an opportunity for the unlikely foursome to get together and solve the mystery. There's just one problem ...

They don't have a single clue.

Review

Claudia is staying with her grandparents in their retirement village while her parents are off on a cruise. It’s all a bit boring, until a mysterious note causes chaos, the gate to the village is mysteriously locked, and the handyman can’t fix it for three days.

It also happens that the two coolest kids in school, Yasmin and Zayn, are locked in with their grandmother - but so is the most annoying boy in school, Orpheus! Claudia thinks it would be fun for them to help solve the mystery but they are without a single clue to go on. Can these four kids, who don't have much in common except being locked in a retirement village, figure it out together, and maybe become friends at the same time?

This is a fun mystery with four unlikely friends and a cast of residents of the retirement village that are all different and quirky characters. It’s about making new friends, solving mysteries and learning more about your grandparents and your family. Claudia quickly learns that friends can be found in the most unlikely places. This is sure to be well-loved, and will best suit those aged 9 and up.
