Official young readers edition of Ash Barty's #1 bestselling and award-winning memoir.
It's a tennis story. It's a family story. It's a teamwork story. It's the story of how I got to where and who I am today.
My story is about the power and joy of doing that thing you love and seeing where it can take you.
It reflects on my whole tennis journey - from the first time I picked up a racquet as a young girl in Queensland, to the night I packed up my tennis bag at Melbourne Park after winning the 2022 Australian Open. It explains how I worked through self-doubt, homesickness and a break from the sport to realise my tennis dreams, winning Wimbledon and ranking number 1 in the world.
Maybe my story will inspire you to follow your dreams - I really hope it does.
Making the Ash Barty story available to younger readers, and in her own words, is fabulous. I was intrigued to gain an understanding of the person behind her inspirational story.
Starting from the path through her most junior days where she realised that she was meant to play tennis and was regularly beating opponents much older than her, through all the life lessons that she learnt along the way - things like never belittling your opponent, always trying your best and accepting defeat graciously.
It explores what made Ash retire from tennis in the first place, only to later reignite her passion for the game and to ultimately go on to be the world’s number 1 player.
You learn of her early loneliness on tour, and the struggles with anxiety and lack of self-belief that she had to overcome. And importantly we see the many people that it took to help her throughout her career to achieve everything that she did.
This is an inspiring and uplifting biography that is all about trying your best at what you do. While we have placed it on our secondary selection, it is an easy and inspirational book that would beloved by those as young as 10 and as old as 100, and all would gain something from reading Ash’s story.
