Description

1750, when times were tough and teeth were rotten…

As part of an ancient family tradition, young Atticus Van Tasticus narrowly escapes a life down the coal mines - or worse, going to school - when he gets to choose the gift of a pirate ship from his Grandnan's treasure pile.

It's a choice that will change the course of history - well, OK, his story, at least. Atticus pulls together a rag-tag bunch misfits - AHEM - a tough, brilliant crew, and sets out to wreak havoc - I mean - live a piratin' life.

With little else to his name, Atticus has a taste for adventure, beauty and danger - where any minute might be your last, and your next minute could be your best (...if only they could get off the dock).

Review

This is the first title in a fabulous new illustrated fiction series by two of the best—Andrew Daddo and Stephen Michael King.

Set in the 18th century, Atticus finds himself on his 10th birthday about to undertake his family’s long standing tradition - to choose something from his very wealthy Grandnan. But he only gets one choice! And it could be good, or it could be worthless...

Atticus thinks he has struck gold when he finds a pirate ship at the back of her shed. And so the adventure and fun begins! Can Atticus put together a crew and sail the high seas?

This is a wonderful and funny adventure story about life in a different time, new friendships and new beginnings. Readers will delight at the references to technology not yet known, but discovered, by Atticus and his crew.

This is a great story for those in Years 3 and up, and readers are sure to be eagerly awaiting the next adventure of Atticus!
