Review

Blair Moon in an interesting character!

Blair has been home schooled in a nursing home all her life, and her best friends are the nursing home residents, Nancy and Edgar. Nancy has also been her teacher, so you can only imagine the things that Blair has learnt and the way that she speaks.

Her only other friend is Poppy, a young girl who lives near Blair that she met at the park. But the relationship between Blair and Poppy is not your typical friendship, as Blair is bossy and controlling.

When Blair’s Mum decides that Blair really needs to learn to socialise with children her own age and make some friends, suddenly she is off to Highborough Primary School! Blair is very unhappy about this, as she makes quite clear to those around her.

Blair is outspoken, self-centered and forthright, and says exactly what she is thinking. This causes her problems with the teachers and the principal at school, and the other kids just think she is weird.

Blair is determined that she will be President one day, but in the meantime she sets her sights on becoming class president. She soon realises that she must be ‘cool’ in order to win, and what follows are her over the top efforts to become just that. With Poppy by her side as her ‘secretary’, and with a planned manifesto, what could possibly go wrong?

This is an entertaining story about what it takes to be a good friend, understanding who you really are, and appreciating the special and different qualities that everyone has. Blair is a determined, single-minded and resilient character, who learns some valuable life lessons along the way!

A great read for all those aged 10-13.
