A modern-day romantasy set in a glamorous magical world of social elites, forbidden love, and a dark magic that could destroy the world
Quell Marionne has lived her entire life on the run in order to hide the deadly magic that flows through her veins. Until someone discovers her dark secret and wants her dead.
Quell enrols into a society called the Order and sets to pass their three rites of membership. If she is successful she will be able to bury her forbidden magic forever.
However things start to get more complicated when she meets her brooding mentor, Jordan.
Nothing is quite as it seems in the Order and it isn't long until Quell realises her enemies may be closer than she thinks . . .
Quell has spent her life on the run with her mother. They are on the run because of the dark magic, known as toushana, that runs through her.
But the Dragun, who are tasked with hunting down and killing anyone afflicted with toushana, are on toher and Quell finds herself alone and now running for her life.
Is taking refuge at her grandmother's estate, the House of Marionne, and learning to hone her magic playing with fire? Especially when her mentor Jordan, who she has some underlying romantic tension with, is one of the people that could kill her if he found out the truth?
There Quell is thrust into a magical, secret society, a world of wealth and ceremony that she didn't know existed. She is a quick learner, and she realises that if she can pass the three rites of propermagic, and be inducted as a debutante into ‘the Order’, it might be her one and only chance to learn to control her dark magic, and stop living life on the run.
But this is a place of many secrets, where power is everything, and those holding the power will do anything to protect it. And we don’t find out the biggest secrets until near the end of this long story, soit is well worth the epic read to the end!
This is a book that will be enjoyed by those 14 and above, who love fantasy worlds full of magic, especially one with dark and dangerous secrets, plus some romance thrown in.
