Review

Millie loves making things and fixing things using whatever she can find. She has just moved house to be closer to her Granny but she also lives with her mum, dad and her other Grandma, Ahma, who helps look after her little sister Rosie.

Millie loves spending time with Granny and she teaches her how to sew. Ahma also teaches her to make things but she finds Ahma so annoying!

Settling in at a new school is difficult and Millie is finding it really hard to make friends. Her mum sends her to a community holiday program and finally she finds other girls who love making things just like her. But when they have a misunderstanding over a skirt Millie made from tea towels she seems to be alone again. Can they rediscover their friendship and the joy of creating things?

This is a wonderful novel about friendship and fitting in and trusting your instincts. It is also about the joy of reusing and recycling things to make something new and useful. Millie is agreat character, and so are both Granny and Ahma. This is a novel sure to be enjoyed by those who love making and creating, and is best suited to Year 4 and up.
