Third instalment of the fast-paced middle-grade adventure series, following adventurologist Pearly Woe!
Pearly Woe is a worrier.
On remote Mammút Island off the coast of Iceland, Pearly’s worrying is put to the ultimate test when she and Pig are winched from a helicopter onto the island to complete a five-day survival challenge – alone.
But they are not alone. And that is not the only surprise in store for Pearly and Pig as Mammút Island reveals its many secrets.
Pearly (an adventurologist), and Pig are back in another wonderful adventure! Books 1 and 2 were part of our selections in 2022 and 2023, but these can also be read as stand-alone stories.
In this story, we see Pearly and her ever-present friend, Pig, embark on a five-day survival experience on the uninhabited Mammút island, which originally belonged to her grandmother, Amma. And the unexpected starts as soon as Amma insists that Pearly and Pig are going to be winched out of the helicopter, onto the island - alone!
Once they land, it quickly becomes clear that they are not, in fact, alone. Should Pearly activate her emergency beacon? Or should she put some of her adventurologist skills to the test, and assess what is going on?
When they encounter a family made up of Dr Maud, who claims to be from the Icelandic Puffin Project, and her children Anouk and Caspar, Pearly and Pig know something isn’t right. Can they manage to solve this mystery, without getting themselves in a world of trouble? And might Pearly actually make a real friend at the end of this?
I love Pearly and Pig as characters and the amazing bond they have. It is a fabulous adventure story about backing your judgement, family, using your instincts, friendship and trust. It will be enjoyed by all those 8 – 12 years old.
