Persephone has always been a servant and a slave, and it’s a hard life. She has a special connection with animals and they keep her spirit and sense of humour alive and well.
When she meets Azriel, who is a very handsome thief, he thinks she is the person he has been searching for, the person who can help his people break free of the tyranny of the King’s sadistic regent who is hunting them.
Persephone and Azriel head for the city to rescue a small boy who has been taken by the regent. Pretending to be a noble woman, can Peresphone bluff the court into believing her story - especially as the evil regent and the young king both seem to have fallen for her? And what about her feelings for Azriel? Persephone must quickly learn who she can trust if she is to save the young boy and escape with her life.
I really enjoyed this book especially the main characters Peresphone and Azriel and the love-hate relationship between them. It’s a book full of adventure, danger, romance, friendship and terror. An intriguing look at court politics, that Peresphone really has to learn to navigate quickly. This is a book that will keep you turning the pages until the very end, and I can’t wait for Book 2! Perfect for all readers 15 and up who love a fast-paced and intriguing story.
