Deb Fitzpatrick's new novel is perfect for nature-loving readers who have a soft spot for animals.
When Tessa's family accidentally hit a tawny frogmouth while driving through the bush at night, they feel terrible. But the tawny is alive and needs their help. What Tessa doesn't know is where that help will lead ...
Tessa and her family are holidaying in cabins in the bush. One night, driving home from the local music festival, they hit a tawny frogmouth owl with their car.
The owl is still alive and they will need to look after it overnight until they can find someone to help them. The owner of the local general store sends them to find Otto, the local wildlife carer. They soon find themselves helping Otto with his other injured animals, and Tessa finds herself drawn to the tawny owl they hit.
She is determined to make sure that the owl is ok and, as they are nocturnal animals, the best way to do this is at night. So Tessa sets off through the bush by herself to go to Otto’s - but the bush is a scary place at night. Will she make it, and check on the tawny owl?
This is a great story set in the Australian bush and highlights the amazing animals that can be found there. Tessa and her family are great characters, as is Otto. There are lots of adventures and fun in this book, and it will be thoroughly enjoyed by nature and animal lovers alike.
Best suited to readers aged 10 and above.
