Description

Innocent by day, killer by night: a dark, twisting thriller about a teen assassin’s attempt to live a normal life.

Trained and traumatised by a secret assassin programme for minors, Isabel Ryans wants nothing more than to be a normal civilian. After running away from home, she has a new name, a new life and a new friend, Emma, and for the first time, things are looking up.

But old habits die hard, and it’s not long until she blows her cover, drawing the attention of the guilds – the two rival organisations who control the city of Espera. An unaffiliated killer like Isabel is either a potential asset . . . or a threat to be eliminated.

Will the blood on her hands cost her everything?

Review

If murder and mayhem are your thing, look no further!

The town of Espera is set in a futuristic enclosed area of London, where diabolical poisons are made that the outside world are willing to pay highly for.

Our main character, Isabel, has just escaped her parent’s grasp. Her Dad is a master poisoner and her Mum is a super assassin - and she has been trained to be just like them. She was also used as a guinea pig in a highly secretive project called Cacoon, using children as assassins, that was introduced by her evil father.

But once outside, Isabel finds that her past keeps catching up with her. She makes a strong friendship with street artist, Emma. But she can’t escape her past, and she realises that she is slowly being killed by a poison placed inside her before she escaped.

Can a weakened teen possibly win against so much evil?

With themes of a dystopian world, trying to do good in the face of a hard-line regime, friendships despite differences, and hope for a better future.

This is an explosive teenage thriller, with some contextual use of the F word, and enough violence to recommend it to a 15 + reader. I loved it!
