Description

Magic, romance, and slumbering gods clash in the start of a riveting fantasy series spanning gangsters' dens, forgotten temples, and the high seas from the New York Times bestselling author of The Illuminae Files and The Aurora Cycle.

Selly has saltwater in her veins. So when her father leaves her high and dry in the port of Kirkpool, she has no intention of riding out the winter at home while he sails to adventure in the north seas.

But any plans to follow him are dashed when a handsome stranger with tell-tale magician's marks on his arms commandeers her ship under cover of darkness: He is Prince Leander of Alinor, and he needs to cross the Crescent Sea without detection so he can complete a ritual on the sacred Isles of the Gods.

Selly has no desire to escort a spoiled prince anywhere, and no time for his entitled demands or his good looks. But what starts as a leisure cruise will lead to acts of treason and sheer terror on the high seas, bringing two countries to the brink of war, two strangers closer than they ever thought possible and two dangerous gods stirring from centuries of slumber...

Review

Five hundred years ago, the troublesome god who was creating war was put to sleep with the ultimate sacrifice of a royal family member. But now, because of the lack of faith of the people, he is stirring. So when Prince Leander is a year late to give his family's 25 year sacrifice to their God trouble brews...

Selly has lived her life on the sea, learning from her father, who owns a merchant fleet. When she meets Leander, she is appalled at his partying ways and lack of duty.

In this world, magicians can control the elements. and Leander is the most powerful as he can control all of the elements. Selly has the markings on her hands which indicate she has power too, but she has never been able to bring it to light.

When the power-hungry Laskia convinces the evil authorities that she should lead a fleet aiming to ensure Leander doesn’t get to perform his sacrifice much bloodshed follows.

Eventually Selly, Leander and the scholarly Keegan are all that are left to try to make it to The Isle of the Gods, and avoid the faster ships and a powerful and evil group that are hellbent on killing them.

Luckily Leander can help their passage by controlling the air and when, with his help, Selly manages to unearth her magic, they finally have some hope.

The enemies to lovers story between the two main characters is brilliantly written and, while not an original concept, you can’t help but love their story. Action-packed and filled with themes of magic, romance, religion, belief and faith, together with a fair amount of bloodshed, this terrific story will be loved by readers 14 and older.
