Part coming-out story.
Part falling-in-love story.
Part falling-apart story.
Harvey's dads are splitting up. It's been on the cards for a while, but it's still sudden.
Woken-by-his-father-to-catch-a-red-eye sudden. Now he's restarting his life in a new city, living above a cafe with the extended Greek family he barely knows.
Sotiris is a rising star. At seventeen, he's already achieved his dream of publishing a novel.
When his career falters, a cute, wise-cracking bookseller named Jem upends his world.
Harvey and Sotiris's stories converge on the same street in Darlinghurst, in this beautifully heartfelt novel about how our dreams shape us, and what they cost us.
Sotiris is a young author who has just had his first book published. Harvey has just dropped out of school to move to Sydney. Both are 17, and finding their way through young adult life.
As Sotiris chases his passion for writing and spends time with his new partner, he battles to choose one over the other. A task made even more difficult in a traditional Greek family who won’t accept that writing is a real career, and struggle to accept that his partner is boy.
Harvey’s dads have always encouraged him to be himself, so when that means dropping out of school to move from Perth to Sydney for a more fulfilling life, they support him. Whilst Harvey is living with his grandmother she puts him to work in her cafe, where he finds purpose and happiness in the little things - discovering more about himself while he’s at it.
This is a beautifully written “semi-autobiographical” story from Will Kostakis that tells the tale of two boys going through the process of finding out who they truly are and what is important to them.
With themes of acceptance, romance of all kinds, self-discovery and family, and a twist in the tale, this story has something for everyone, and is best suited to readers 15+.
